| Beschreibung: | I am very excited to be running the LSA East again this year and there are some truly exciting things happening. We have Nigel North, Xavier Diaz-Latorre, Christopher Morrongiello, and Jason Priset as the LSA faculty. One advantage to this festival, in comparison to other LSA seminars like Cleveland, is the opportunity to take classes outside of lute if one wishes; dance, viol, vocal, ensemble, recorder... All kinds of offerings with top faculty from around the world. There will also be a couple of projects that are more for basso continuo playing, including a performance of Cavalli's Erismena as part of the Baroque Academy as well as an opportunity to perform in the Baroque Academy opera. Soprano Julianne Baird and lutenist Richard Stone are directing the Cavalli project and have welcomed lutenists to be involved from the LSA. This year the opera will be a production of Purcell's King Arthur. Other lute happenings that are going to be on the schedule (which are not posted on the website) are a solo concert by Xavier Diaz-Latorre (Thursday, July 13 at 5:15 pm) and a Broken Consort performed by Amherst and LSA faculty on Saturday evening following the 7PM faculty concert. The lute will be well represented in the Festival Concert Series as well as some other outstanding concerts by the Amherst faculty. There is very little time left to sign up, we are just a couple of weeks until the end of June! We would love to have the lute well-represented at both the LSA East and West festivals. The more we can grown these 'off-year' festivals the more we make the LSA a driving force in the early music community and really grow the main Festival in Cleveland into something even bigger and better than it already is!
